New facilities opening early 2011 for new mothers & babies at North West Private

September 2010

A brand new 30 bed accommodation wing for maternity patients will open at North West Private Hospital in January 2011, providing new mothers with guaranteed single rooms and a modern and comfortable environment in which they can recover and bond with their babies.

North West CEO Jane McGrath said the new wing of 30 new rooms with private ensuites, would be linked to the existing maternity ward and close to the Special Care Nursery.  The hospital is also expanding its birthing suites as part of this development bringing the total number of birthing suites to five.

“We are very pleased with the new rooms and their décor.  Some of the rooms in the new wing will look out onto the peaceful creek behind the hospital and we will also have a few deluxe rooms which I am sure will be very popular,” Ms McGrath said.

“North West Private has a strong reputation in the north west suburbs of Brisbane for the provision of excellent maternity services and these new facilities will only enhance this reputation and the services we can offer new mothers.”

North West Private boasts experienced midwives and specialist neonatal nurses on staff and the hospital offers mothers antenatal and lactation classes.

“Many of our mothers come back to our hospital as repeat patient for the births of further children because they are very happy with the service we can offer.  The hospital is also very accessible without the traffic hassles that can sometimes come with larger metropolitan hospitals, and we have free onsite carparking which has recently been expanded.”

Adrian Copping and his wife Rachelle, residents of Bracken Ridge said they were looking forward to the delivery of their baby in February and to experience the new maternity ward which opens in early 2011.

“It will be exciting to be one of the newest families to experience the new maternity ward at North West Private Hospital.  The guarantee of a single room was very appealing to us as well as the opportunity to stay in one of the new deluxe rooms,” Adrian said.

North West Private Hospital has been undergoing major construction works since 2007 including:

  • A new car park completed in 2007;
  • Expansion of the specialist consulting suites in 2007;
  • Expansion of the Special Care Baby Nursery in 2008;
  • Construction of two additional operating theatres, creating a total of five theatres due for completion in early 2009; and
  • Construction of a new Day Procedure Unit, Cancer Care Day Unit and Front Reception area expected to commence construction in early November 2008 for completion in late 2009.
“The maternity development project will assist us in meeting the growing demand for our maternity services in the north west of Brisbane,” Ms McGrath said.
