More beds for Babies at North West Private Hospital

A new 30 bed accommodation wing, which will be used primarily for the admission of maternity patients, has been announced for North West Private Hospital in yet a further expansion for this growing private hospital located on the northside of Brisbane.

The new wing will consist of 30 single rooms with ensuites and will be linked to the existing maternity ward. Construction is expected to start late in 2009.

Hospital CEO Jane McGrath said the expansion of bed capacity at North West Private, which has just been approved by Ramsay Health Care, was a significant development for the hospital and would assist the hospital to meet the increasing demand particularly for maternity services in the northern suburbs of Brisbane.

The construction of these beds will be the last stage in the Master Plan redevelopment of North West Private Hospital formulated in 2005 after the hospital was purchased by Ramsay Health Care. Other stages of the plan have included:

• A new car park completed in 2007;
• Expansion of the specialist consulting suites in 2007;
• Expansion of the Special Care Baby Nursery in 2008;
• Construction of two additional operating theatres, creating a total of five theatres were completed in September 2008; and
• Construction of a new Day Procedure Unit, Cancer Care Day Unit and Front Reception area expected to commence construction in early November 2008 for completion in late 2009.

The Maternity bed redevelopment project announced by Ramsay Health Care will now commence to design and approval stage. Construction is expected to commence in late 2009 after the completion of the day procedure unit and cancer care day unit.

“North West Private Hospital has established a strong reputation in north west suburbs of Brisbane for the provision of excellent maternity services to the community. Since opening in 1984 North West Private has delivered many of the local community babies who have now returned to have their own children delivered at North West.. This additional development project will assist us in meeting the growing demand for our maternity services,” Ms McGrath said.

Ramsay Health Care took ownership of North West Private Hospital in late 2005 and has continually demonstrated to staff, patients and doctors that they are committed to the provision of expanded and contemporary quality private healthcare in this region.
