New local support for breastfeeding

North West Private Hospital in Everton Park has launched a Lactation Clinic for families seeking breastfeeding support, who have birthed either at North West or another obstetric facility, public or private.

The clinic is operated by International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) who are health professionals trained specifically in breastfeeding and can provide guidance, up-to-date information and support for breastfeeding.

Maternity Services Manager Kim Pickering said the team can offer education and support across all aspects of breastfeeding.

“This may include establishing feeding, how to know your baby is getting enough breastmilk and what to expect as your baby grows and develops,” she said.

“The lactation clinic has been created to provide families with the understanding and encouragement to feed their baby with confidence.”

The new appointment-based Clinic is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons. There is a fee for service which may be covered by Medicare, private health insurance or incur an out of pocket payment
