Dr Irene Skiathitis consults in General Paediatrics at Everton Park.. Her areas of interest include children with: Developmental issues/learning difficulties Autism Spectrum Disorder Behavioral concerns including attention difficulties Dr Skiathitis completed her medical degree at the University of Queensland, in 1997 and since then gained experience in paediatrics and neonatology, training at the Royal Children’s Hospital Brisbane and also the Gold Coast, Redcliffe, Townsville, and Ipswich Hospital prior to qualifying as a Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (paediatrics).

Dr Skiathitis completed her medical degree at the University of Queensland, in 1997 and since then gained experience in paediatrics and neonatology, training at the Royal Children’s Hospital Brisbane and also the Gold Coast, Redcliffe, Townsville, and Ipswich Hospital prior to qualifying as a Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (paediatrics).

During her training, she was able to gain clinical experience in developmental and behavioural paediatrics. In 2009 Dr Skiathitis undertook a fellowship in Child Advocacy (child protection) at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Brisbane where she saw children with often quite complex behavioural, social and emotional issues. In 2010, she undertook a one year fellowship in Developmental and Behavioural Paediatrics, at the Child Development Unit, Keperra, Brisbane. Working with a dedicated team of paediatricians and allied health professionals Dr Skiathitis received specific training in assessing children with developmental and behavioural difficulties, including autism, ADHD and other complex medical and diagnostic concerns.

In 2012 to 2013, for 12 months, Dr Skiathitis was practising as Staff Specialist in General Paediatrics at the Royal Children’s Hospital. A rewarding part of her work included working with disabled children (including neurodisability), and coordinating many services and support therapies (e.g. child psychiatrists, psychologists, neurologists and geneticists.)

Dr Skiathitis is passionate about assisting children with developmental needs to achieve to their full potential and understands the importance of advocating for and supporting their families and carers. Dr Skiathitis also speaks fluent Greek.
