North West Private Hospital Day Patient Rehabilitation Program provides excellence in multidisciplinary patient focused care to assist in recovery after illness and surgery. We aim to help each patient optimise their health and independence.

A range of day patient rehabilitation programs are available to eligible privately insured and veteran patients from within North West Private Hospital, other hospitals, and directly from the community.

Who would benefit from the day patient rehabilitation program?

The day patient rehabilitation program is for any person who has had an illness, surgery or a long hospital stay and requires a multidisciplinary team approach to assist with their recovery. The program will help you recover and assist you to live independently in the community or prepare to return to leisure, work or other lifestyle pursuits.

What does the program involve?

You will be assessed by a rehabilitation consultant prior to commencing the rehabilitation program. Once accepted, allied health professionals will tailor an individualised therapy program to suit your goals. Programs vary depending on your requirement but may include Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Exercise Physiologists, Dieticians, Speech Pathologists, Social Workers, Hydrotherapists and Psychologists.

Physiotherapy can assist with

  • Improving balance and confidence
  • Improving strength and flexibility after an injury or surgery
  • Pain management
  • Develop fitness and physical abilities
  • Managing chronic health conditions

Occupational Therapy can assist with

  • Regaining independence
  • Making everyday activities safer and easier
  • Falls prevention and energy conservation
  • Improved sleep and stress management
  • Memory and cognitive assessment and strategies

How long will a Rehabilitation Program be?

Frequency and length of the program is determined by your needs but is generally 3 hrs, twice a week for between 4-6 weeks. You will be advised of your appointment times when booking.

What will it cost?

In most instances the health fund will cover the cost of the program. We always check with the health fund to make sure there is no excess or co-payment and if there is, we discuss this with you before proceeding.

How can I be referred to the program?

Referrals to the Day Rehabilitation Patient Program will be provided by your General Practitioner or your specialist. Your General Practitioner remains your primary medical carer for your general health needs while attending the program. The rehabilitation team must be informed about any changes in your medical condition or medication as this may impact on your rehabilitation program.
